The Nike Cortez is an iconic and timeless sneaker that plays an essential role in the history of the Nike brand. In the late 1960s there was a modest sports equipment company called Blue Ribbon Sports. Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman then redistributed running shoes from the Japanese company Onituska Tiger in the United States.

The two partners will then “create their own model” incorporating the now famous waffle sole while drawing inspiration largely from the silhouette of Onitsuka sneakers. Following legal discussions, Blue Ribbon Sports became Nike and renamed the shoe under the name “Cortez”. The running shoe was launched during the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico and enjoyed almost immediate popular success.

In 1994, the Nike Cortez hit the screens thanks to the film “Forrest Gump”; in fact the hero receives a pair as a gift and goes around the United States several times running with the pair on his feet.

Nike is offering you a piece of history since the pair has been reissued and will be released on the SNKRS application on May 31, 2024 at the retail price of 109.99 EUR. With its typical 70s silhouette, the Nike Cortez 2024 includes a white leather base enhanced by a bright red swoosh logo. A blue line covers the sole from the heel to the midsole, and adds an elegant contrast to the whole.

This emblematic model has seen various collaborations, such as with the SACCAI brand.
